Velda has more than 35 years of experience in the public relations, marketing, advertising and event business. She hails from a newspaper family that once owned four newspapers in North and South Carolina. A graduate of the University of North Carolina School of Journalism, Velda started her career at The Greenville News. She later became a partner in a public relations and event firm for the next 15 years before starting Hughes Agency in 2001.
Since 2001, Velda has grown Hughes Agency to a staff of 15 and made it one of the most recognized public relations, marketing, advertising and event firms in South Carolina. Velda brings to the team her unmatched networking capabilities and vast public relations experience.
Jane Harrison is responsible for major accounts, public relations, media relations, marketing campaigns and coordination of special events. Her experience includes execution of overarching communications plans, media relations, guiding corporate initiatives, social media strategy, public relations and high-level strategy. She brings experience from an array of industries including banking, higher education, airlines and real estate. She joined Hughes Agency after over six years as Chief Experience Officer at Coldwell Banker Caine where she oversaw the company’s strategic initiatives while providing exceptional experiences in all aspects of the business. When she’s not working on client needs, she can be found spending time with her husband and daughter.
Brandy Humphries is responsible for agency operations and its client accounts. Her experience includes managing account directors and senior account executives for clients across a range of industries including law, commercial and residential real estate, restaurants, financial, medical, convention/meeting facilities, professional golf and non-profit. Her skills in media relations, crisis and corporate communications, event management, and consumer and B-to-B marketing have helped clients make connections across the country and around the world. When she’s not tackling the media world, you may find Brandy planning the next big travel adventure for her husband, Kip, and two girls, Samantha and Reese.
For more than 20 years, Amanda Long has launched distinctive brands and expanded marketing efforts for organizations in an array of industries - from aviation, healthcare, higher education and economic development to hospitality, non-profit, and technology. In her role at Hughes Agency, she has served clients in a variety of ways, from leading the North American public relations and media planning initiatives for SYNNEX Corporation, a Fortune 300 global technology company, to building the brand and launching a breakthrough ultrasound medical device into the emergency medicine market. She handles everything from high-level strategy to execution of overarching communications plans, media relations, guiding corporate initiatives, social media, and a wide range of PR writing for her clients. In the evenings and weekends, you may find Amanda resetting her soul by tending to her garden, hiking in the mountains or playing with her children and husband.
Eliza manages public relations strategies, media relations, press announcements, and editorial and advertorial submissions for her clients, in addition to assisting with the organization of corporate events, social media strategies, and corporate communications. She’s integral to the implementation of strategic marketing and communications plans for SYNNEX Corporation, a Fortune 300 global technology company, and manages public relations for its consumer electronics division. She appreciates the variety that comes with working for a large client and enjoys its abundance of diverse PR writing opportunities. In addition to her experience in the technology industry, Eliza has worked for clients in the hospitality and non-profit industries.
Lauren works with clients across a variety of industries – from non-profit and corporate to manufacturing and hospitality. Seeing client’s succeed is her resume. She specializes in event planning, producing key marketing strategies, guiding fundraising initiatives, social media, and public relations. With more than 10 years of experience in distribution, software, marketing, printing, and color graphics, she embraces the value of learning and living with a purpose, not only in her career but also in life. When her hands aren’t full with meetings and events, you may find her with a paintbrush and blank canvas re-energizing her artistic soul.
Jennifer manages the strategic media planning, buying and analysis for Hughes Agency’s clients including SYNNEX Corporation, a Fortune 300 global technology company. With 20 years of experience in advertising and media planning, she’s managed international, national, regional and local multi-media initiatives. Jennifer has developed and managed print, online, out-of-home and SEM programs for clients in various industries including banking, communications, healthcare, transportation and technology. If she isn’t working, you will likely find her either making soup or hiking a trail to a waterfall.
Anna leads a team of senior account and account executives to create meaningful connections for clients. She specializes in marketing, community relations and event coordination, mainly in the corporate banking industry. Her more than 17 years of experience in public relations, marketing and event coordination spans an array of industries, including corporate banking, non-profit, commercial real estate and law firms. In her free time, Anna enjoys having a glass of wine with her husband and dog, Willis, although he’s not really a drinker.
Elise leads a team of account executives and specializes in fundraising and event coordination for non-profit organizations including golf tournaments, awards luncheons and dinners, and annual meetings, ranging in size from 300 to 1,500 attendees. She also manages the marketing and public relations needs for several non-profit, corporate and higher education clients, including day-to-day client communication, media relations, community relations, and the production of marketing, advertising and fundraising materials. When she’s not juggling projects, you’ll find her spending time outdoors with her husband, Brett, her daughter, Emma Davis, and their yellow lab, Mac.
Katie has worked across an array of industries including nonprofit, banking and higher education. She currently manages producing three large fundraising events for a nonprofit organization, ranging in size from 300 to 1,300 attendees. In addition, she produces marketing and fundraising materials for another nonprofit and manages public and media relations for a corporate client. When away from her desk, you can find Katie spending quality time with her husband, Blaine and daughter, Elsie Mae.
Deborah is responsible for the accounting, financial reporting and human resource administration for the agency. She also works closely with Hughes account executives to ensure that the clients’ financial reporting requirements and established budgets are always harmoniously aligned. When she isn’t whizzing through Microsoft Excel, rolling around with her grandson, Cullen gives her the most pleasure.
Jim Reel is a seasoned senior art director and graphic designer with extensive agency experience on a wide range of products and services and leads the design of all advertising and marketing campaigns. His projects include work for the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism, BI-LO, Coats and Clark Threads, Champion Aviation Products, Crescent Properties, Michelin personnel recruiting and several banking accounts. His work has garnered numerous local, regional, and national awards.
Ana manages public relations, marketing and communications for several clients including Pacolet-Milliken Enterprises and the YMCA of Greenville. She brings 15 years of experience in marketing and communications for non-profit and for-profit organizations, as well as a background in print journalism.
Prior to joining Hughes, she led community relations efforts for GSP Airport and Greenville Forward. She is a former reporter for the Greenville News and a freelance writer who has contributed to several local publications.
When she’s not creating dynamic content, she spends her time with her husband Ian and sons Ethaniel and Enzo exploring parks, restaurants, museums and cities.
With nearly two decades of PR, corporate communication and journalism experience, Valerie plans and executes comprehensive communication plans for multi-million dollar accounts with a proven track record of success. She puts her strong background in assembling strategic partnerships, implementing social media campaigns and managing digital projects to work for clients. Her established outstanding media relationships with journalists, editors and producers locally, regionally, nationally and around the globe help her share the story of her clients and exponentially build their brands.
Sandra is responsible for the operation of day-to-day business. She manages all administrative and receptionist duties, along with assisting Velda and the Hughes Agency team. She is the first face you see when you visit the Hughes Agency. In between managing task at the office, Sandra enjoys spoiling her husband, children and grandchildren.
Jennifer manages media relations, public relations strategies, and content strategy for SYNNEX Corporation, a Fortune 250 global technology company. Jennifer has more than 15 years of business communications and journalism experience working with non-profit and for-profit organizations.
Prior to joining Hughes Agency, Jennifer leveraged her skills as an award-winning business journalist to found X Editorial, providing companies with editorial, content strategy, and media relations services for B2B communications. She is also former Senior Business Writer for The Upstate Business Journal, where she managed editorial planning and writing for a range of industries including manufacturing, technology, finance, SMBs and sustainability. She loves finding and telling compelling stories, and making complex subjects into engaging experiences and content for diverse audiences.
Hayley is responsible for overseeing the public relations and marketing activities for various clients, including a law firm with offices across the southeast. Prior to joining Hughes Agency, she was the communications director for the S.C. Attorney General’s Office where she served as the official spokesperson for the office and the attorney general. She enjoys staying active in her community and is a member of the Junior League and the Public Relations Society of America. When she’s not writing press releases, Hayley enjoys exploring Greenville with her husband, Evan, and spending time with her family, friends and a nice bottle of wine.
Kamarie is the Director of Finance for Hughes Agency and is responsible for all the accounting, financial reporting and human resource administration for the agency. When she is not working, she can be found spending time with her husband, Drew, and their four children Kole, Lane, Hudson and Charlotte.
