YMCA of Greenville announces the promotion of Cameron McDowell to Eastside Family YMCA executive director. McDowell was formerly the operations director for GHS Family YMCA and the YMCA Program Center. His new role will bring him back to lead the YMCA where he started his full-time career in 2007 as its sports director.

McDowell will be responsible for a YMCA that has seen tremendous growth since it opened its doors in 1989 to serve the Greer and Taylors communities.

In addition to his 10-year career at the YMCA of Greenville, McDowell brings an impressive record of leadership to his position. He serves on one of six Employee Resource Groups for the YUSA, the national office of the YMCA, and on the YMCA of Greenville’s Diversity, Inclusion and Global Committee. He is currently pursuing Global Leader Certification through YUSA, a training for employees that teaches them the cultural competency needed to work with the diverse populations served by the Y. He has also served as Membership, Sports and Childcare Cabinet Chair for the YMCA of Greenville.

“Eastside Y is truly a second home for me – my son participates in the afterschool program, my daughter takes swimming lessons at its pool and my wife works out here,” McDowell says. “This is an organic and exciting move and I welcome the opportunity to come home to my community and lead the Eastside Family YMCA during this time of growth.”

McDowell graduated from Western Carolina University with a B.S. in Sociology.
